My name is Micah Cavender. I am the oldest of four siblings and have been
homeschooled all my life. I was raised in a small town in Tennessee on 27 acres, but it wasn’t a farm. We owned no animals except for my adopted blonde lab that was the same age as me. My best memories there are playing out in the woods with my dog, fishing in our pond or playing games with my little brother.
At 15, I started my own landscaping business since I couldn’t find a business that would hire a 15yo and still own that business today. At 16, I took advantage of the dual credit program at a local college and have been spending the rest of my high school years taking courses at college, as well as some online courses for different homeschool groups.
I have loved dual enrollment! My English and History professors greatly impacted me. I was even awarded the Year One Engagement Award nominated by them. I am still in contact with them today. My Drama Appreciation professor was the teacher who exposed me to one of my current loves – theater/acting. I took his class as an elective and told him on the second day of class that I did not want to be an actor or major in theatre. He responded with a smile and said, “that’s fine, it won’t affect your grade at all, but give it a chance.” By the fourth week of class, he had me hooked. I was selected by my him and the Director of Theater to be a member of the competition theater group after they viewed my required monologue for a class grade. I performed both local plays and a competition play. I can see myself being a part of a local community theater group in all its capacities, both on and off stage.
I love all things about computers – hardware and software. It is a giant puzzle to me that requires intense strategic and critical thinking skills. My current academic goals are to pursue a B.S. degree in Computer Science with a concentration in Cyber Security at Texas State University. I hope to intern while in college to gain work experience in my field. One of my personal goals is to study abroad. I want to explore the world and continue taking foreign languages to reach that goal.
