Graduate Program Highlights 2020
The DePuy Synthes graduate program offers recent college graduates the opportunity to get experience, over a two- year time frame, in multiple departments and functions across the site. There are currently 16 Graduates on the program;
8 first-year graduates and 8 second- year graduates, across the areas of Manufacturing Engineering, Automation, NPI, 3D COE, MST, 3D Operations, QA Operations, Process Engineering, GSC Quality, SNP, PP&L, ESMI, Working Capital Transformation, Fidelity Analytics,
GPEX Supply Chain Analytics and Launch Management.
The opportunity the graduates receive to expand their network, collaborate across different functions and contribute to projects on a national and international level are some of the many reasons why the DePuy Synthes Graduate Program
is so successful. Aside from their day
jobs, graduates also get the chance to volunteer and take part in extra-curriculars from volunteering at events to furthering their education through organised CPD.
Such opportunities include the IWISH annual conference for female transition year students, leading some of the STEM Academy and Virtual STEM academy primary school outreach programs, getting involved in the site communications teams and raising funds for the Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal. The graduates wish
to extend a massive thank you for the guidance received from their managers but especially to the members of the graduate program team; Thomas Brett, Aisling Lewis and Raymond Hanley.
Campus Ireland Cross Campus Collaboration
Project:
The graduates at DePuy Synthes took part in a Cross Campus Collaboration Project this year which focused on the mental health of young people and the facilities available to them. This project was done in conjunction with Janssen, Vision Care and EDC graduates. The aim of this project was to design a webinar tailored to the Graduateship and Apprenticeship generation (18- 25yrs). This webinar will advise on the resources available in J&J through their Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) service.
Slí Éile: Our graduates
also got involved with CSR activities out at Slí Éile in North Cork. The day was spent painting and cleaning out an old house on the land to get it ready for use. The graduates used this as an amazing opportunity to give back to the community.
Project KENYA:
The Johnson and Johnson STEM Academy is a primary school outreach program that aims to promote a future career and get students interested
in STEM subjects. The STEM academy covers classes in the areas of 3D printing, Lego Robotics and Dash & Dot Robotics. This year, two of our graduates took the program and scaled it up to be suitable for secondary school students for a school in Kenya. The program launched in March 2020. The students in the school engaged fully with the course content and made it to the national robotics competition in Kenya before COVID-19 put a pause on the competition.
WiSTEM:
During the past number of months our graduates have involved themselves with WiSTEM initiatives:
One of our graduates joined the WiSTEM University Pillar Committee
as the DePuy Synthes Representative; helping to organise the “Instagram Takeover” where short recordings of female leaders, graduates and interns were filmed and shared on social media. Over 1,000 people were reached through this campaign.
In collaboration with CIT WiSTEM society, graduates also presented at the Johnson & Johnson webinar organised by the society to showcase different careers in DePuy Synthes and Janssen to CIT students.
