 Team Member Highlight 2020
 Paul Telfer – COVID-19 Community Co-Ordinator
COVID-19 has resulted in a change of role for one member of the team. Paul Telfer started in the security team in March when change was happening. Paul really took to the role
and with innovative ideas and his service delivery Paul was shortlisted in the IPSA Security Champion awards, the only Irish representative to be shortlisted.
Since September Paul has moved into the new role of COVID-19 Community Coordinator. Here Paul manages the Desk booking system for onsite access, steer management, point of contact for COVID-19 Champions and a positive onsite resource to help employees’ transition into new
practices. The role was something that could not have been envisaged at the start of the year but has become one of the key roles onsite for us all to function safely to the “new norm”.
“My Favourite part of the job is that no two days are ever the same. Every day brings a new challenge that helps to bring out the best in myself and others.
The most exciting project has been assisting in launching the desk booking app. This was all totally new to me from my previous role at DePuy and it is great to be working alongside all levels of staff/contractors on this project.
My proudest moment was when I was told that my name had been put forward for the role as COVID-19 community coordinator. Then after the interview with Adrian/Maeve, being told that I had been selected for the role.
Only last week I was questioning myself as to was I the correct person for the role as COVID-19 community coordinator
or would I revert back to me old role. After a conversation with Adrian and receiving some good advice and guidance I decided not to throw the towel in and continue with this new challenge.”
   Quality Assurance
The QA team are split between people who can work from home and those who need to be onsite in order to support manufacturing or to run validation activity. It’s great to
see how we’ve developed different ways of working and how people have adapted to the change and found ways
of supporting our colleagues who need to be onsite while minimising risk. It’s been unusual to develop working relationships with new team members solely through virtual meetings, but on the other hand it’s become so normal that it’s made meeting with our overseas counterparts seem like
we’re all sitting together. We’ve become much better at collaborating between the two buildings as not being in the same room isn’t seen as a barrier to effective communication. We’ve met (heard mostly) each other’s families, dogs and cats and learned how to mute calls quickly, not always successfully. Some of the team have grown COVID-19 beards so we’ve had to do double takes to see who we’re talking to. We look forward to finding new ways of working together and supporting each other in 2021.
Department achievements
The completion of three Audits; EUMDR Audit in January, BSI Micro Audit in March and MDSAP Audit in May - only one minor finding which is a fantastic achievement for the department and for the site.
