On Jan. 31, while on patrol, Officers Pasillas and Gomez respond- ed to a home invasion. Upon arrival, they were met with one fe- male and one male offender, who were armed with a loaded semi-automatic hand- gun. After realizing that the police had ar- rived, the male offend- er turned the weapon
on the officers and, with no other option available, gunfire was exchanged. The male offender was killed in the exchange. The female offender was taken into custody and charged with Murder – First Degree and Home Invasion/Discharge Firearm.
Officers Pasillas and Gomez are classic examples of the value of both excellent training and courage under fire that is found in Chicago Police Officers. A couple of offenders, intent on causing harm and possibly even death, were removed from the city, one never to return.
