CPD Enforcers kick off season with 2-0 start
Playing like a team with unfinished business on its mind, the CPD Enforcers returned to action for the first time in nearly two years with a pair of convincing wins.
On April 17, the CPD squad rolled over the Cleveland Warriors 47-7. They followed that with a 28-7 victory over FDNY Bravest in the Enforcers home opener on May 1 at DePaul College Prep.
The annual Gold Star Memorial Game against New York fire- fighters took on a special meaning, with the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks coming up later this year. During a poignant pregame ceremony, the Enforcers presented the FDNY with a plaque commemorating the 22 firefighters, and members of the Bravest team, lost while responding to the attack on New York City.
Their names were read aloud to recognize each man for his
selfless commitment on that tragic day. Players, coaches and those in attendance then paused for a moment of silence to re- flect on the sacrifice of those firefighter football players who last took the field 20 springs ago.
The Enforcers also paid tribute to retired Sergeant Pat Scan- lan, a longtime team supporter and key contributor to making sure game day events ran smoothly. The team is honoring Scan- lan by wearing his initials on their helmets this season.
After hitting the road to take on Philadelphia on May 15, the Enforcers will close out the regular season with home games scheduled for June 12 at Mt. Carmel High School against India- napolis and the First Responders Bowl against the CFD Blaze at Brother Rice High School on June 19.
