On April 18, 2021, officers responded to a call for a well-be- ing check at 3600 N. Recreation Drive. The caller relayed to the dispatcher that her child’s father was intoxicated and threat- ening suicide, even calling both of his daughters and saying his goodbyes.
The officers located the victim’s vehicle. The victim was seated in the driver’s seat with a loaded Glock 19 in the center console cupholder. The officers began to communicate with the visibly shaken victim, gaining his trust and offering their
assistance. The victim finally rolled down his window and un- locked his doors.
The officers were able to escort the victim from the vehi- cle without further incident and recover his loaded handgun. The victim was transported to the hospital, getting the help he needed.
The officers’ quick action, understanding and compassion prevented the victim from harming himself or others.
It is with great appreciation that Chicago Lodge 7 pres- ents these officers with the Life Saving Award.
