We’re in this together: Messages to inspire Chicago Police Officers
United we remain stronger
“During these unprecedented and uncertain times, it is crucial that we support, unite and encourage one another for our overall wellbeing and mental health. As I reflect on living in our world today as a wife, mother, sister, relative, neighbor, friend and colleague, I draw comfort knowing that I have a social network that I can reach out to and uplifting activities that I can draw upon during moments when I feel I am not at my best. I’d like to share thoughts that have guided me in this journey the past several weeks:
Role Models
In our personal and professional lives, we continue to serve as role models to many in our respective Chicagoland communities. This has not changed. With this being said, I encourage everyone to demonstrate kindness, empathy and understanding to all whom we encounter daily. A simple “Thank you” and/or smile can give hope and acknowledgement of their sacrifices and commitment and, in doing so, increase their feelings of self-worth and purpose in the work that they do. Family and Connection
Families are home together with some parents, guardians and caregivers who have lost their jobs due to non-essential business closures, as well. We explain to our parents and children that we don’t have answers and feel unsure, scared and/or frustrated about our future. However, in these moments we can draw strength from each other and our families and loved ones by being calm with our words and hopeful with day-to-day routines we create. Our attitudes and behaviors can provide hope and an emotional space to discuss how we all might feel when things are not how we planned them. United we remain stronger.
