On Feb. 9, Officers Elliott Tupayachi and Ashstom Mc- Lean-Hall responded to a battery in progress outside a tav- ern at 3630 N. Ashland. The officers observed the offender produce a handgun and shoot a victim multiple times. The offender then fled on foot, and the officers gave chase. As the officers closed in, the offender turned and fired his handgun
at the officers. Officer Tupayachi, fearing for his life and that of his partner, returned fire, striking the offender. The offend- er was pronounced dead at the scene.

On June 1, the officers observed a large group of males interfering with traffic flow in the 11900 block of South Eggleston. The officers saw a male with a handgun and at- tempted to conduct a street stop. The offender fled on foot, ignoring the officers’ verbal commands. A foot pursuit en- sued, and the offender entered a residence in an attempt to evade arrest. The officers, in felony pursuit, followed be- hind the offender. Upon entering the residence, they were able to apprehend the offender and further discovered a cache of weapons and drugs. The offender was placed into custody, and a LEADS inquiry revealed that he did not possess a valid FOID card. The offender was charged ac- cordingly. Thanks to the officers’ diligent patrol efforts and unrelenting pursuit, a violent felon was removed from the streets of Chicago.
