On Oct. 12, 2019, the officers responded to a ShotSpotter call at the intersection of 87th Street and Elizabeth. The of- ficers located two gunshot victims on the scene. The officers triaged the victims and determined that the 14-year-old boy had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the chest. They uti- lized their LEMART training and began applying pressure and combat gauze to the victim’s wounds. The officers reassessed the victim, who was having trouble breathing, and they quick- ly applied a HyFin Vent chest seal to cover the victim’s suck- ing chest wound. CFD arrived on scene and located another
wound, which required the application of a second seal by the officers to stabilize the victim. The victim was transported to the hospital by CFD and taken into surgery. Thanks to the of- ficers’ quick actions and teamwork, the gunshot victim was saved from being another homicide statistic on the streets of Chicago.
It is with great appreciation that the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 7 presents these officers with the Life Saving Award.

On June 25, 2019, the officers responded to a wellbeing call at a multi-unit building located on the 4000 block of North Greenview. The officers were advised by OEMC that the victim suffers from depression. She had texted a picture of a plastic bag covering her head and electrical cords around her neck in a slipknot to her mother, the caller. The victim’s mother did not know the apartment number, so the officers formu- lated a plan to locate the victim. The officers checked every
apartment until they came to a door and were able to hear loud gasps for air coming from inside. The officers were able to gain entry from an outside window and unlock the apart- ment door for the ambulance. The officers removed the cords and bag from victim’s head and neck, and she gasped for air to fill her lungs. The victim was transported to the hospital by CFD. Thanks to the officers’ quick actions and teamwork, the victim was saved from death at her own hands.
It is with great appreciation that the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 7 presents these officers with the Distin- guished Service Award.
