On Feb. 2, 2019, the officers responded to a fire at a residential building located at 3550 N. Lake Shore Drive. Once on scene, the officers met with maintenance staff, who directed them to the 21st floor. The officers made their way up and observed smoke billowing from a closed apartment door. They were able to gain entry to the victim’s apartment and, once inside, ob- served the stove engulfed in flames. The officers searched the apartment through the thick smoke and located the victim still
asleep in his bed. They roused the victim, who was highly intox- icated, and he began to struggle with his rescuers. The officers carried the drunken victim, who was unable to stand or walk on his own, from his smoldering apartment to safety. Thanks to the officers’ quick actions, the victim was saved from a fiery death.
It is with great appreciation that the Fraternal Order of Po- lice Lodge 7 presents these officers with the Life Saving Award.
