on the top floor of a 48-floor residential building located at 340 East North Water St. Once on scene, the officers observed the victim’s legs dangling over the ledge of the building. The officers were able to ascertain the victim’s apartment and gained entry.
Once inside, the officers observed the victim using the open window as a swing. The officers assessed the victim’s mental condition and learned that he was in a mental crisis. officers continued to speak with the victim, he slowly began to slide his arms from the window frame and was about to plunge to his death. The officers immediately took action, taking hold of the victim, who continued to squirm and wriggle from their lifesaving grasp.
The officers were able to secure the victim, and he was trans- ported to the hospital for evaluation. Further investigation inside the victim’s apartment revealed two loaded handguns, which the victim said he contemplated using to end his life.
