Lodge 7 members propel youth to success
Lodge 7 members of the Chicago Police Department and Chi- cago Housing Authority teamed up for this year’s Teen Summer Youth Program, a six-week engagement initiative that helps stu- dents explore future career options.
Alise Buford, the youth liaison officer for the Community Po- licing Group, helped facilitate both virtual and in-person work- shops for 30 youth between the ages of 16 and 24 across Chicago to gain skills in interviewing, resume writing and civic engage- ment.
“Building positive authentic police-teen community relation- ships is paramount in bridging the divide between law enforce- ment and the community at large,” Buford said. “Showing that we care for the teens by providing this training — exposing them to professionals — while forming lasting bonds is the platform for building positive engagement and relationships, which will in turn build trust on both sides.”
