  Remembering their fallen
Family members who lost a loved one stepped up to remember at the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation Candlelight Vigil.
The family of Officer Clifford Martin Officer Sal DiFranco, brother of Rebecca Marmolejo, daughter Ebony Jimenez, daughter of Officer Marco DiFranco of Officer Eduardo Marmolejo Officer Samuel Jimenez
Families chair, recognized that the solemn event could evoke feelings of loss and distress without the usual personal connec- tions being possible this year.
“It is my hope that we can still bring a sense of hope and com- fort to the Gold Star Families and Chicago Police Officers, active and retired,” Perez said.
The event featured a video recalling the story of Officer An- thony Rizzato and Sergeant James Severin, who died 50 years ago in a shooting outside Cabrini-Green. The Emerald Soci- ety and CPD pipe and drums played a rendition of “Amazing Grace.” Father Dan Brandt offered his prayers for the officers who “died doing God’s work,” while also adding to the night’s theme of support for all officers during a challenging year.
“We pray for a return to peace in our world, peace in our streets, in our houses and peace in our hearts,” Brandt said.
Added Cline, “2020 has been a difficult year for everyone, but our police officers in particular have shown their bravery and dedication to this city. We know they make great sacrifices.”
