mission to drive them to their destinations.
“He was always a respectful guy,” Anderson confirmed.
“He’d give it and he would want it. You just don’t see that in officers like you did in Ron.”
The right way to do the job
Clifford Martin would take a pause for the cause to send his kids a tip of the day. This was advice to his daughter and son about how to handle certain assignments they would encounter on the job.
Martin loved being a father figure in the department as much as a sergeant. He trained dozens of officers. And he had that magnificent moment of being able to pin the Chicago Police star on his daughter Shannon. Shannon did likewise for her younger brother when he was sworn in.
“He always just wanted to be with his guys,” CPD Chief of Detectives Brendan Deenihan noted. “He just wanted to teach the detectives the right way to do the job, and the right way to do things in general.”
Martin earned more than 60 department awards during his 25-year career. Even with the pandemic-related re- strictions, his funeral transpired like a final badge of hon- or. Hundreds of Chicago police cars formed a miles-long procession from the service to his interment.
Shannon represented the family in honoring her father. During her remarks, she called her dad a superhero.
“Even though Gotham City was always in some kind of peril, my dad was always there for us,” she stated. “My dad always believed in us. He believed I could be whatev- er kind of officer I wanted to be.”
