T
e Pride and the Picnic
The annual Lodge 7 Picnic on July 13 at Gaelic Park in Oak Forest featured another chance for members and their families to enjoy a day in the park.
Rides and carnival games attracted many of the members’ children – and some of the members. The FOP Gift Shop tent was also a big hit with its many discounted items. And members like District 8 Officer Guillermo Cerna (bottom right inset) grilled up the stan- dard picnic fare of hamburgers, hot dogs and then some.
But the way the weather held up seemed to provide even more pomp and circumstance than usual. The pic- nic was a chance for Dorinda Rodgers, who has served in the 5th District for 26 years, to bring her entire family togeth- er (dressed in red below) and for Juan Cabrales, a Tac Team Officer in District 8, to display his “Never Forget” shirt (below center) that includes the names of all Chicago Police Officers lost in the line of duty.
And then there were former District 3 partners Cosme Velazquez and Edgar Garcia, who brought their families to- gether under a big “Blue Lives Matter” flag and an American flag (left). In ad- dition to so much food, drink and fun, pride also seemed to fill the park on this day.
