Detective Michael Mitchell, Star #21093 Detective Elliot Flagg, Star #20597 Detective Danielle Mulligan, Star #20084 Nominated by Police Officer Matthew Beesley, Star #18844
On Dec. 11, 2020, at approximately 4:28 a.m. at the location of 5430 S. Prairie Ave., the offender was observed by a civilian wit- ness dragging what appeared to be a body to a vacant lot. As the offender dragged the body, he continued to stomp and kick the head.
The civilian witness bravely approached the offender and vic- tim, ordering the offender to stop. The offender fled the scene and the witness notified police. The victim’s lifeless, nude body was bound with duct tape, and she had suffered blunt force trauma as well as stab wounds to her back and hands.
The assigned detectives were able to locate private video sur- veillance cameras that had captured the events described by the witness. The detectives canvassed the scene and were able to lo- cate the offender’s apartment.
The offender had unsuccessfully attempted to clean the vic- tim’s blood from the walls and floor with bleach. The detectives recovered the knife used to stab the victim, and the offender was later positively identified by the witness in a photo lineup. The offender gave a statement blaming the “cartel for raping and beating his girlfriend to death.” The offender’s statement had more holes than his underwear, and he was charged with first-degree murder.
It is with great appreciation that Chicago Lodge 7 presents the detectives with the Distinguished Service Award.
