The officers responded to a call of a person with a gun at 190 N. State St. on May 20, 2021. While in route, the responding units received multiple updates from OEMC that the armed offender was now in the 100 block of North Wabash.
The armed offender was reported to have pistol-whipped a woman in the head with his gun and punched her in the face. The armed offender continued to terrorize citizens, pointing his gun in their direction as he fled the scene. The armed offender then attempted to carjack a vehicle in traffic, opening the door
and pointing his gun at the driver and forcibly pulling her from her car. The armed offender became spooked by bystanders who began shouting at him to stop.
The officers arrived on scene, and the armed offender began pointing his gun in their direction. The officers were unable to get a clear line of fire due to all the bystanders on scene. The armed offender fled, tossing his gun underneath a car, and continued to make good his escape.
A foot chase ensued to Lake Street, and the offender was finally taken into custody. The officers displayed great restraint and were able to mitigate a potential deadly-force situation without injur- ing any citizens.
