     Police Officer Brandon Sanchez, Star #18430
Distinguished Service
On April 23, 2020, at the location of 721 S. Wabash Ave., Officer Brandon Sanchez was returning to his car on the third floor of the parking garage after staying at the nearby Department-approved Essex Hotel during the COVID pandemic. Upon opening his driv- er’s side door, Officer Sanchez felt a tap on his shoulder and heard the offender state, “Give me your f---ing keys, I’m going to f---ing shoot you, I have a gun.” Officer Sanchez turned and faced the of- fender, whose front hand was in his jacket pocket, implying that he had a gun.
Officer Sanchez tossed his keys at the offender and utilized an emergency takedown, pinning the offender to the parking garage floor. Officer Sanchez searched the offender’s front jacket pocket for his weapon but recovered a piece of white plastic tubing. Of- ficer Sanchez continued to detain the offender, pointing his real gun at the offender, and notified 911 from his cellphone. The 1st District tactical team arrived and placed the offender into custo-
dy. The offender was charged with attempted aggravated robbery for his failed attempt at being a criminal. The offender was cur- rently on probation/parole for aggravated robbery with a hand- gun.
Life Saving Award
On Oct. 28, 2020, at the location of Fulton and Latrobe, Officer Sanchez was attending an outdoor roll call and heard four to six loud reports in the nearby area. Officer Sanchez quickly respond- ed, canvassing the area for offenders, evidence and the all-too- common victim(s). Officer Sanchez located a M/1/14 bleeding profusely from his upper left arm. Officer Sanchez, observing the minor victim’s excessive blood loss, utilized his first aid and LEMART training. Officer Sanchez affixed a tourniquet to the vic- tim’s arm, stopping the blood loss. CFD EMS finally arrived on scene and transported the victim to the hospital, where emer- gency room doctors related that a young life was saved by Officer Sanchez’s quick action.

      Police Officer Wilbur Williams, Star #13646
Nominated by Sergeant Jesse Belcher, Star #1078
On August 6, 2020, Officer Wilbur Williams responded to a call of a cit- izen injured at the location of 1997 W. Garfield Blvd. Upon arriving at the scene, Officer Williams observed the female victim with a blood-soaked shirt wrapped around her right wrist. The victim, who was standing in a pool of her own blood, related to Officer Williams that she felt she was going to lose consciousness. Officer Williams triaged the victim’s injury and applied his tourniquet to stop the extensive flow of blood. The vic- tim’s bleeding had subsided when CFD EMS arrived on scene and she was transported to the University of Chicago hospital, where she was stabilized. Officer Williams’ quick action and utilization of his LEMART training saved the victim’s life.
