Cops and the community
If the “dog days of winter” were a real thing, February would be the month to represent them. Snowy, cold and dreary weather doesn’t help, even if springtime is just around the corner. Chicago Police Officers didn’t let the longest short month diminish their spirit of engaging and supporting the community, bringing a little brightness to those they en- countered along the way.

The love flowed in the 10th District, where District Coordinator and Do- mestic Violence officers partnered with the Helen & Joe Acevedo Scholarship Memorial Foundation to deliver Valentine’s Day gift bags to domestic violence survivors. The officers also showed off some of the appreciation and well-wishes shared with them by supporters.
Officers from the 12th and 18th warmed up and chatted up citizens during a Coffee with a Cop event inside and outside the Starbucks on North State in mid-February. The of- ficers also shared important carjack- ing–prevention and other safety tips to those who stopped by.
The massive pile of coats stacked up at the 16th District illustrated an out- pouring of community support during a four-hour February coat drive. And it didn’t take long for officers to pay it forward as they loaded up three squad cars to deliver the goods to the pastor of Eden Church.
As part of the Chicago Public Library’s citywide virtual read-along, 8th Dis- trict officers played the role of Zoom storyteller to youngsters between theagesof2and5.
