On March 21, 2016, the detectives responded to the loca- tion of an off-duty robbery and shooting of a Chicago Police Officer in the 22nd District. Upon arrival at his residence, the off-duty officer was approached by two offenders who an- nounced a robbery and shot the officer once. The off-duty officer was able to return fire, striking one of the offenders. After Detectives David Brandt and Michael Bell learned that the offender had entered the hospital because of his gunshot wound, they placed him in custody for further investigation.
Due to a full confession from this offender and his identifica- tion of the second offender, both were charged with attempt- ed murder, robbery and armed discharge of a firearm. The professionalism and determination of these detectives re- moved two dangerous offenders from the streets of Chicago.
