On June 30, Officer Timothy Sweeney was off duty in his vehicle when he noticed a crowd at 1620 W. Chicago Ave. When he approached, he saw the victim of an auto accident on the ground. The victim’s leg was badly severed, with only some ligaments left connecting the leg to the torso. Sweeney immediately helped and comforted the victim. Officers Ru-
ben Ramirez and Leonardo Prieto arrived and utilized their LEMART training, applying a tourniquet to the victim to pre- vent him from bleeding out. The CFD then arrived and trans- ported the victim to the hospital. Without the assistance of these officers, the victim surely would have perished.
It is with great appreciation that the Fraternal Order of Police Chicago Lodge #7 presents Officers Prieto, Ramirez and Sweeney with Life Saving Awards.
