Officer Geoffrey Delderfield
c
On September 15, 2011, Police Officer Geoffrey Delderfield was assigned as a 99 unit to guard a prisoner at the hospital. The 6-foot- 4-inches 280-pound of- fender was at the hos- pital because he took an overdose of drugs in a suicide attempt, after murdering his next- door neighbor with a hammer.
The offender was coming out of the bathroom, armed with the knowledge that he was soon to be released. He flew into a rage and struck a hospital worker in the head, causing him to bleed profusely. A life-and-death struggle began with the homicidal offender trying to disarm Delderfield.
After a lengthy struggle with the violent offender, Del- derfield and the same hospital worker who had suffered head trauma were finally able to subdue the offender.
After a string of charges, the offender was sentenced to 34 years in jail.
It is with great appreciation that the Fraternal Order of Police Chicago Lodge 7 presents Officer Geoffrey Delderfield with the Distinguished Service Award. d
