SMALL ROSES
Using a #2 round brush basecoat the center rose at the bottom of the Pineapple Tulip on the lid with Gold Oxide. Basecoat all other smaller roses with Naples Yellow. Shade the bottom of the roses with a #4 filbert brush side-loaded with Orange. Paint strokes on the shadow side with a #2 short liner brush and Indian Red Oxide with Titanium White strokes on the opposite side. Add a center dot with Indian Red Oxide and a highlight dot of Naples Yellow. See Steps 12 – 17.
ALL LEAVES BLUE LEAVES
Paint blue leaves with a #8 filbert brush loaded with Ultra Blue Deep, toned with
a touch of Olive Green. Overstroke with Paynes Grey. Add Sapphire dots on top of the Paynes Grey stroke. Add some Titanium White strokes on the other blue leaves. See Steps 4 and 10.
GREEN LEAVES
Paint green leaves with a #6 filbert brushloaded with Antique Green and a touch of Olive Green. Overstroke green leaves with Naples Yellow. Add a stroke between the two Antique Green leaves with Indian Red Oxide. Add Naples Yellow dots on top of the Indian Red Oxide stroke. Add Naples Yellow strokes to the other green leaves. See Steps 4 and 10.
DETAILS
Using a liner brush and thinned Indian Red Oxide, add cross-hatching under the center mum on the lid and under Pineapple Tulips on the sides and the front. Tie bundles together using a #2 round brush and Paynes Grey. On the front and side panels, add a Sapphire dot at the base of the Pineapple Tulip and the bundle. See Step Sheet.
When painting is complete, let dry well. Remove transfer lines and varnish with two coats of Jo Sonja’s Satin Polyurethane Varnish.

Jan Campbell has been blessed with teachers such as Heidi England, Jo Sonja, and Michael Walton. She has painted for decorators and done walls and furniture. Now that she is retired, she can paint whatever she wants. It is such a thrill to have a passion that includes so many wonderful friends.
Her family puts up with her messes and supports her “habit.”
Her husband is such a strength as he can build so many of Jan’s thoughts and make fun things happen.
She enjoys being in the North Country and has a studio at home at their cabin.
