Let me share with you some helpful tips for your success on this colored pencil project. This is not coloring, so our goal as we begin is not to get all
of the pores of the paper filled in completely. The technique involves a layering process with the goal of getting well-blended areas. To create soft blended lines with colored pencils you use small circular strokes or gentle back and forth strokes with a light touch of pressure. Learning to control the pressure is very important so as not to create hard lines, which will give you a well-blended, beautiful colored pencil project. Hard pressure in the beginning stages only creates hard, messy looking areas! Please refer back to the Decorative Painting Magazine Spring Issue 2018 to read an article that was published on “The Beauty of Colored Pencils” in the Certification Corner. You can also go to my website,
www.paualaleopold.com, and go to Links to see several YouTube demonstrations that I have done to show successful colored pencil tutorials. Also our SDP library has some of my colored pencil projects free to our members. Dust the crumbles whenever they appear with a dusting brush. And finally, sharpen the pencils often with your battery- operated sharpener!
