STEP 2
 SCROLLS, FLOWERS AND LEAVES
Start with the Medium Value (MV) and place it in the middle of the area, leaving room on either side for the Dark Value (DK) and Light Value (LV). See Step 2.
STEP 4
STEP 3
After painting the MV, take your flat brush and tip one corner into the DV. Place the DV next to the outside of the line drawing and softly blend it into the MV color. See Step 3.
To switch colors, neutralize your brush in the MV color. Pick up LV on a corner of the brush, place this opposite the DV side and softly blend it into the MV. See Step 4.
TEARDROPS AND LINEWORK
Fully load a round brush in LV that has oil added to it. Hold your brush straight up and down, touch the tip of the brush lightly to the surface and pull a narrow line out a short distance, stop, press down on the brush and lift straight up and off. Repeat again, make each stroke shorter and smaller. Use Lamp Black on some and LV Yellow on others. See Step 5.
Using LV Green, freehand the long vein lines with the JS liner brush. Then place teardrops along the vein lines with LV Green. If you feel you have too much green, then use the LV Yellow instead. Refer to the photo.
DOTS
Use the stylus and load it in LV color, touch down and lift straight up and off the surface. Refer to colored picture for placement.
BORDER
Using the wedge make-up sponge or the flat brush gently loaded with MV Red, paint the border on the rim of the plate. Use the round brush loaded in LV Red to paint the S-stroke design. Another option would be to make dots with your stylus along the edge.
FINISHING
When the design is completely dry, mist it with Krylon Matte Varnish several times, then apply three coats of J.W. Etc. Varnish. This makes the surface more durable and finished looking.
