The example for this article creates the look of Bas-Relief on a simple Paper-Mache cone.
I have used the same method on crosses, ornaments, dress forms, alphabet letters, pumpkins, and angels. Border molds and floral molds are my favorites. This is your opportunity to be creative! Maybe even add bling!
Many products on the market will work with the molds: Quickwood, PC Lumber, Apoxi-Sculpt, Paper Clay, Re- Design Modeling Material, Form Flex, resin, and more.
My favorites are Quickwood, PC Lumber and Form Flex. Quickwood and PC Lumber are basically the same two-
part epoxy product. They don’t shrink and make a beautiful, detailed mold. While setting up, the molded objects can be formed onto your surface and adhere without glue. They dry hard and are great for items like wings. Quickwood has gotten so popular for sculpting that it is sometimes hard to find and can be expensive for this technique. Form Flex is easier on your hands. It also does not shrink and makes a beautiful, detailed mold. It stays flexible when dry, giving you more time to work but it must be glued to the surface. It is not good for sculpting or for anything that you want to be hard and stiff such as the wings on an angel.
