PREPARATION
Paint the surface with DecoArt Multi-Purpose Sealer and let dry. Load a 3/4" brush with Lamp (Ebony) Black and basecoat the surface. Let dry.
LET’S PAINT
BARNWOOD BACKGROUND
Step 1: Load a wet 1" encaustic oval wash with Warm White and mix paint to an inky consistency. Swipe brush across a paper towel to get rid of excess paint. With the brush parallel to the surface, drag the bristles from left to right from the top to the bottom. We want this streaky and not covering all of the black. Letdry.
Step 2: Load a wet 1" oval wash with Asphaltum and mix paint to an inky consistency. Rinse the brush, swipe on a little Antique Green here and there and soften with a paper towel if necessary. Rinse the brush, load with Warm White and paint over the background again from side to side. Take a soft paper towel and swipe from side to side to soften the look. You can always add more Lamp (Ebony) Black, Asphaltum, or Warm White to achieve the barnwood look you’re going for. Let dry.
Step 3: Go over the grooved lines on the surface with the thicker tip of a black Identi-Pen.
Step 4: Transfer the pattern. Notice the ginkgo line drawing below the word Welcome. Line that up with the ginkgo on the right side and continue transferring the leaf. Also. notice on the bottom line drawing, the leaves, berries, and ginkgo leaf above the word Fall. Line that up with the right side of the design and continue to transfer the line drawing.
