TWIGS AND BERRIES
Step 1: Load a wet no. 2 rigger with Asphaltum and Paynes Grey; mix on the palette. Paint the twigs. Rinse the brush, load with Burnt Sienna and Warm White; blend on the palette. Paint a highlight on the twigs. Let dry.
Step 2: Load the 3/8" stencil with Warm White and Jack-O’Lantern Orange and wipe almost all the paint off on a paper towel. Using a soft circular motion, stencil over the circle. Make the berries the size you’d like and use at least two different sizes on the stencil. Load the 3/8" stencil with Jack-O’Lantern Orange and swipe across a paper towel to get rid of excess paint. Pounce or use a circular motion to stencil over the berries again. Let dry.
Step 3: Load the toe of a wet 1/4" angle with Country Red and float color at the base of the berries. Load a damp liner brush with Sunny Day and paint a dot highlight on each berry.

GINKGO LEAVES
Play around with washes of colors to give the ginkgo leaves a “fall” look.
Basecoat all the ginkgo leaves with Warm White first and let dry.
Step 1: For the more yellowish leaves, load the no. 8 with Saffron Yellow and Warm White; mix on the palette; basecoat the leaves. Let dry. Rinse the brush, reload with Bright Yellow and paint the leaves again. Load the toe of a damp 1/4" or 3/8" angle with Burnt Sienna and Asphaltum and blend on palette. Float color along the edges of the leaves and a few “v” shaped floats along the top. Soften with a mop brush.
Step 2: Paint washes of different colors – red, orange, greens, yellows and browns - here and there using the no. 4 or 1/4" angle. Let dry. Load the small Mezzaluna with Sunny Day and Warm White. Dry-brush highlights on the leaves.
Step 3: For the greener leaves, load the no. 8 with Antique Green and paint the leaves. Load the toe of a damp 1/4" or 3/8" angle with Plantation Pine and a touch of Paynes Grey; blend on palette. Float color along the edges of the leaves and a few “v” shaped floats along the top. Soften with a mop brush.
Step 4: Paint washes of different colors – red, orange, greens, yellows and browns, Laguna - here and there using the no. 4 or 1/4" angle. Let dry. Load the small Mezzaluna with Sunny Day and Warm White. Dry-brush highlights on the leaves.
Step 5: You can add splatter to all the leaves if you’d like. Tear some paper towels and block off areas around the leaves. Load a very wet no. 8 with Asphaltum and Paynes Grey and mix on the palette. Tap the middle of the brush over the handle of another brush to splatter paint on the leaves. Move the paper towels and get rid of any splatter outside the leaves. Lay a piece of paper towel over the leaves and lightly press. This will give the splatter a stained look instead of heavy dots of paint.
