STAGE 2
Step 2. Referring to the Stage 2 worksheet, fill in the remaining brighter gold areas using the no. 2 round brush. It will take painting several layers to get solid coverage. Again, for the first layer of paint, use the Gold Mix to get more opaque coverage. Then repeat the process with the straight color.
Step 3. Color - Vintage Brass plus a tiny touch of Soft Black.
Adding Soft Black darkens the color and thus gives it a bit more contrast from the 24K Gold. Continuing to refer to the Stage 2 worksheet, paint in all remaining darker leaves, lines, and flat areas inside the flowers. It will take two or three layers of paint to get solid, opaque coverage. Test your darker gold color and adjust for contrast.
Step 4. Allow the paint to dry. Erase all visible graphite lines. Using the Gold Mix, strengthen the gold form and shape lines that may have been covered when painting in the darker gold color. Look carefully for graphite lines that did not erase completely. (I take a picture with my cell phone and enlarge it. The image helps me see lines or corrections that are needed.) Now is the time to gently and carefully paint them out if visible. The background color can also be used to clean up where necessary. Add the Berry Red (or red of your choice) shown on the tracing design.
Step 5. To shade around the bow knot, moisten the bow using clean water and the filbert brush. Using a round brush fully loaded with Soft Black, glaze a layer of shading on both sides of the bow knot. Soften the color to fade into the red base color, again using the clean filbert brush and a light touch. Allow to dry. Add the detail lines using the liner brush and Soft Black.
