Pedestal
Pedestal is known as moving the camera up or down without
changing its vertical or horizontal axis. A camera operator can do two
types of pedestals: pedestal up means “move the camera up;” pedestal
down means “move the camera down.”
In other words, one is not tilting the lens up, rather the camera is
moved up. The best example for this is fixing your camera on a tripod
and raising or lowering the tripod head.
Steadicam
All of us have taken videos using digital cameras and video recorders.
Most of them would be shaky. As we shoot a video, the camera seems
to pick up body movements and every shake or jolt is evident in the
video footage.
However, this is not the case with professional videographers. They
®
achieve this remarkable effect using a device called Steadicam . Since
their introduction in 1976, Steadicams have become one of the most
important tools in the filmmaking world — they have expanded the
cinematographer’s palette considerably.
Tilt
Moving the cameras lens up or down and at the same time, keeping
its horizontal axis constant is termed as tilting. This is akin to nodding
one’s head up and down.
