                                               and into life in general

In a globalised economy, schools need to get on board and adapt to current trends.

Rather than shunning technology and banning it from the classroom, an ideal teacher

will include 4IR teaching and assessment methods into the classroom. This can take

on many forms, but as Ingrid Beale, CEO of Lloyd’s, states, “For many people, the

smartphone is the first and only computer they have.” This is especially true in South

We must develop a comprehensive and globally shared
view of how technology is affecting our lives and

reshaping our economic, social, cultural, and human
environments. There has never been a time of greater
                                    promise, or greater peril.”

                                                                  Klaus Schwab, Founder and

Africa where many learners do not have internet access other than on their phones,

which they bring to school (covertly or otherwise). Letting learners engage with the

learning material on their phones generates interest in learning and engagement with

content on another level. At Maryvale, learners responded well to online assessments

and research tasks which required internet use.
