BAGAWAT-Synopsis

The story belongs to the time after the arrival of Aryans in India and their domination in different parts of
the country. One of the Aryan monks decides the social class division into four- three ruling classes as
Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas and the native people as Shudra, the lower class and considered them as
slaves.

Bagawat is a story of unsung heroes who fought for the freedom of their community. The story depicts the
struggle of rebellion heroes against the atrocities of authoritarian society.

Shankar is one of the rebellion heroes who belong to lower class, revolted against the tyrant ruler Thakur
Uday Pratap Singh and escaped from the village with his five other friends. One day, Thakur’s commander,

Harpal Singh and Thakur’s son Vikram Singh arrested Shankar’s friend Baiju and four other friends from the
forest and tortured them. Soon Shankar knows about his friends and he reaches there. He fights and kills all
the Thankur’s men and warns Harpal Singh and spares him. After knowing this, Thakur gets angry at
Harpal and he gives a chance to Harpal Singh to arrest Shankar in a week. Harpal makes an announcement
in the town against Shankar. On hearing the announcement being made against Shankar, his old father,
Budhiya and his childhood married wife, Shyamli get shocked. The same night Shankar’s father goes to
Shankar’s hideout in the forest to make him understand. But, Shankar decides to rebel against the
oppressor Thakur.

At midnight, Shankar’s comes to his village to meet Shyamli where Mukhiya, one of the residents of the
village and servant of Harpal, sees him. Mukhiya informs Harpal about Shankar.

The next day during a festival when all the Shudra villagers were enjoying, Harpal Singh enters the village
with his armed men. He tortures the poor peasants and insults Shyamli by stripping down her clothes and
forces her to walk nude in front of all the villagers. Harpal warns all the villagers to find Shankar within a
week otherwise he will make all their women walk nude in front of everyone.
