On the Move

After landing in New York City in the 1920s, Hermès had to pack
up, but the maison made a triumphant return in the 1950s, and
the rest, as they say, is history. Now, the iconic house is back on the move. This time however, it’s a quick jaunt around the block to the new flagship store located at 706 Madison Avenue on the Upper East Side. The 20,250-square-foot store was designed to bring a little je
ne sais quoi from Paris to the bustling streets of New York City. To celebrate its relocation, Hermès hosted a quintessential city-style block party, which closed off several Manhattan blocks. Guests such as Martha Stewart, Jenna Lyons, and Chloe Fineman were treated to a moving, three act, Broadway-style production called “Love Around the Block,” which finished with a club-like party at the empty former flagship. The new store is as meticulously designed as a Birkin bag, with a bespoke approach that gives it a house feel. And if you’re looking to bring something home in an orange box, you’re in luck— the store is officially open for business.
