P. 214
METHOD III
A. Fill the spray tank to a mark and spray a specified number of feet.
B. After spraying, refill tank to the beginning mark measuring the quantity of material needed for refilling.
C. Use this formula.
(to calculate gallons/acre) = 43,560 x gallons sprayed 43,560 x 80 =528 gal. per acre
distance sprayed x swath width (ft.) 660 x 10
USEFUL FORMULAS
To determine the amount of active ingredient (ai) needed:
number of gallons or pounds =
acres to spray x lb. ai/acre (recommended) 10 x 0.5 =20 gallons
lb. ai/gal. (liquid) or ai/lb. of product 0.25
To determine the size of pump needed to apply gallons/acre desired:
pump capacity =
gal./acre desired x boom width (ft.) x MPH 5 x 25 x 5 =1.26 gal. pump cap.
495 495
To determine the nozzle capacity in gallons/minute at a given rate/acre and MPH:
nozzle capacity =
gal./acre x nozzle spacing (in.) x MPH 120 x 20 in. x 5MPH =2 gallons per minute
5940 5940
To determine the sprayed acres/hour:
acres/hour =
swath width (in.) x speed (MPH) 48 in. x 5MPH =2.4 acres per hour
100 100
To determine the amount of purchased material to use:
liquids (gallons of product required/acre) =
lb. ai/acre (recommended) 1.6 lb./acre =5 gallons per acre
lb. ai/gal (product) 0.32 lb./gal
wettable powders (lb. of product required/acre) =
lb. ai/acre (recommended) 1.6 lb./acre =3.2 lbs./acre
% ai in formulation 50% (.5)
To determine the rate of speed in MPH:
Measure the seconds it takes the tractor to go a distance of 300 to 500 feet.
MPH = distance traveled (ft.) 420 ft. =7 MPH
1.47 x time (seconds) 1.47x40
