High Park Pool in Baldwin Park

Baldwin Park Community Center
The Baldwin Park Community Center is the first
community center planned for the Baldwin Park
neighborhood in Orlando, Florida. The facility
houses a meeting hall, kitchen, exercise facility,
locker rooms, pool area, and children’s play area. It
is located on Fern Avenue in the Southwest corner
of the development. The facility opened in 2003
and is already a focal point and gathering place for
the growing community.

Several challenges arose as the design ensued
including maintaining a residential scale and
character, security and maintenance of a high-use
multi-purpose facility, and financial realities.
Precedence for the design came from clubhouses
and other small community buildings in the
surrounding downtown area and the residential
designs of Edwin Lutyens, a British architect. A
one-story plan was necessary to take advantage of
the large site as well as remain within the given
budget.
