RACE SIX 17 JULY 2022
10th July 2022
@ Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron
Congratulations to the Port Phillip Classics Race
five fleet of 14 competitors for their participation
in another successful day of classic yacht racing.
First winter race with decent strength wind.
It wasn’t a pretty sight. Wind strength that is, while walking
down St. Kilda pier to the RMYS race tower at 9:00am on
rd
the 3 July. Where is it? It was 3 knots when power was
applied to the tower the wind recording instruments. Best
not send them too far was the thinking in the tower as the
wind crept up to 5 knots at 10:00am. After deciding on a
short multiple lap course to give them some decent
windward work to the first mark and keep them close by, the
course selection was called.
The race five fleet attacks the start line.
Attack the start line was the word for sure to describe the race five start. By one second, the best start went to
Ettrick, closely followed by a start line dipping Wanita and then the ruck of the fleet led by Snow Goose, no
longer than 10 seconds later. With no sight the freshening breeze arriving from Fawkner Beacon, Ettrick
took a punt with a fast tack to port to go looking. A decision that paid off when she arrived at the first mark
