in company with the faster boats. Several boats stayed on the starboard tack but suffered with knocks and
then over standing the first mark due to wind shifts to the south.
Multiple lap course allocated for race five
The multiple course allocation decision worked a treat. Every boat had to work hard on the windward
beats. Two laps of this course was used. The increase in wind strength close to the end of lap two indicated
a possible third lap. As the fleet was now spread out after 6 miles it was decided to call them in. Indicative
of the swinging race wind directions was a triangular course where no boat could set a kite. Boats whose
allocated handicap is based on regular use of spinnakers suffered a bit in the results.
Race 5 results analysis
Tight corrected times across the fleet is the word here. Concerned that the fleet handicaps overall are too
low your handicapper did an analysis of the existing handicaps. The handicap of each finishing boat was
altered by 0.050 points down and 0.050, 0.100, 0.150 and 0.200 points up on their existing handicap. There
were some but not many corrected time placing changes. These corrected time placing to the better affected
the same two boats. While the handicappers lips are sealed both boats that featured had stand in skippers.
We’ll apply the same analysis to race 6 results.
Posting of race results
At this time we can publish the race results shortly after the last boat home. So without waiting a results
posting notification you can do a quick check. If there’s a decent size time break between boats finishing
we can do a partial fleet home results posting.
Times short best get the story out.
Race 5 was another day of great classic yacht racing on Port Phillip
