Clean the fingerprints from the outside
of the fridge door—and there are
always some! Don't spray and wipe the
entire door unless it needs it. Clean
around the hinges and the nameplate
of the refrigerator—your toothbrush is
the best tool. Open the refrigerator
door to wipe and clean the rubber
gasket. If it is dirty, make sure to use
your toothbrush here also. Once you
get many areas like this clean, you won't have to clean them
again for a long time: e.g., the refrigerator hinges, nameplate,
rubber gasket, and cabinet and drawer handles.
Wipe the refrigerator air vent (down near the floor) while the
door is open—or if it is just dusty, use your feather duster or
whisk broom. While the door is open, wipe fingerprints on top
and on the side of the door near the handle. Also, clean off the
line left by the gasket on the inside door lining. Check for easy or
obvious little wipes that are needed on the visible areas of the
interior shelves. Don't get carried away—a thorough cleaning of
the interior normally isn’t Maintenance Cleaning.
The Stove Top
After you've cleaned the area above the stove—the hood usually
needs to be sprayed and wiped—start at the back and work
forward. Cleaning vent filters is not normally a Maintenance
Cleaning. There are two main types of stove tops. Here is how
to clean them.
Gas Ranges
These are easier to clean than electric ranges. First take the grates
from the gas burners on the left side and set them on top of the
grates on the right. Now spray and wipe the left side as
necessary. You'll usually need your white pad here to get at the
burned-on crud. If your pad won't work, use your scraper where
possible, but the stove's curved edges often make this difficult.
