               A-605:         When any imported goods are damaged or deteriorated or lost before the goods are
                       cleared from customs, the importer with the permission of the proper officer of Customs
                       gets  such  goods  surveyed  by  the  Authorized  Surveyors  in  the  presence  of  the  Customs
                       Officers.   The surveyors examine the goods and furnish in their report the extent of damage
                       or loss.   The report furnished by the surveyor will help the importer to get Abatement of
                       duty  or  Remission  of  duty  as  provided  for  under  Sections  22  and  23,  respectively  of  the
                       Customs Act, 1962.
                              The survey report also helps the importer to claim compensation from the insurance
                       company, if such goods have been insured.
