Q-723:  Information on Importer-Export Code (IEC)
               A-723:  (i)    An IEC is a 10-character alphanumeric number allotted to a person is mandatory for
                              undertaking any export/import activities.
                       (ii)    Application for obtaining IEC may be filed online with applicable fees and
                              submitted with digital signature.
                       (iii)    Need to register with ICEGATE for the purpose of filing through online to get
                              Shipping Bill and Bill of Entry number of self submits.
                       (iv)    For modification in IEC, applicants may submit online application through digital
                              signature (Class-II or Class-III), by paying applicable fees and uploading requisite
                              documents, corresponding to the changes sought.
               Q-724:  Mandatory checking of Import General Manifest (IGM)
               A-724:         Once, after filing Import General Manifest by the Carrier of goods or his agent, the
                       Importer or his Customs broker files necessary documents for import with Customs under
                       the said imported goods and to check the details of shipper, consignee, number of packages,
                       kind of  packages, description of goods, airway bill or bill of lading number and date, flight or
                       vessel  details,  etc. If  any  mistakes  in  filing  Import  General  Manifest,  the  import  Customs
                       clearance  documents  cannot  be  accepted,  as  the  details  of  such  documents  has  to  be
                       matched with the details in Import General Manifest (IGM).
