Shakeup?
Thursday 27th of July ushered in a new era for eCommerce in Southeast Asia, with the arrival of Amazon in Singapore. The Amazon apps finally went live after months of speculation, as Amazon unveiled its aggressive two-hour delivery service “Amazon Prime” which promises to change the eCommerce landscape in the region. The role out was far from smooth though. Amazon was overwhelmed by demand in the first few days of launch, preventing the online giant from taking on fresh orders as they scrambled to book taxis and freelance drivers to make deliveries when all slots became “sold out”.
These events raise the question:
