Conserving Water
All Hands on the Deck
You don’t have to be one of those committed “environmentalists” to
realize that the days of cheap and abundant water are now gone.
The conservation of water is a global challenge that we all should be, in
fact have to be, concerned about.
A wide variety of efforts are being undertaken to
promote conservation of fresh water resources
at international, national and sub-national levels.
These range from creating awareness about
WORLD WATER DAY issues and challenges that confront us when
March it comes to securing water for our current and
22 that augment our capacity to capture surface
future use, as well as engineering interventions
water flows for direct usage, or/and for recharge
of groundwater aquifers.
WORLD WATER DAY
Each year, organizations around the world
commemorate World Water Day by working
to raise awareness of ongoing global water
challenges and by articulating solutions that can
make a difference.
In December 2003, the United Nations General Assembly, proclaimed
the period 2005-2015 International Decade for Action ‘Water for Life’.
The decade officially started on World Water Day, March 22, 2005.
The primary goal of the ‘Water for Life’ Decade is to promote efforts
to fulfill international commitments made on water and water-related
WATER FOR LIFE issues by 2015.
