Chapter 6 Techniques in Programming
Friction Passes from Entrance to Exit (Even Pass Numbers)
Exit Wheels on Front of Vehicle (VERY IMPORTANT TO CLEANING BACKS OF
VEHICLES)
The carriage speed will change to “speed shift speed” just before exit wheels are about to wrap around front
corners of vehicle. This speed must be set slow enough for wheels to remain in contact with front of vehicle
during arms entire rotation. This speed can be adjusted from exit wheel setup. This speed can significantly
affect cycle time but care should be taken to continue washing front of vehicles when speeding up. This is
typically the only point in a package where the front is cleaned.
The positions at which the speed change occurs can be set from the EXIT WHEEL SETUP screen. Some
physical adjustments significantly affect this speed shift speed; the ability of machine to clean front of vehicles,
and balance of exit wheel penetration. These physical adjustments are as follows:
LEVEL MACHINE – a non-level machine will cause one arm to penetrate more than another and/or one to
come in faster than another. See chapter 4 of Installation and startup manual.
ARMS PIVOTED INWARD – the arms need to be pivoted inward for them to come in fast enough to wash the
front. If one side has more penetration than the other or one side is slow the arms may need pivoted inward.
This is typically done by turning off air, loosening main pivot bearings, holding arm pivoted to center bay, then
tapping upper bearing towards center bay, then tapping lower bearing away from center bay. If only on side is
slow, pivot it inward first, then test. See Vehicle testing in chapter 9 of Installation and startup manual.
SET EXIT ARM AIR PRESSURE – turning up the pressure increases speed at which they rotate inward, but it
also increases the penetration.
The typical way to setup exit wheels is to confirm machine is level, then conform arms are pivoted inward, then
set pressure, then set speed shift speed last. See Wheel rotation & pressure settings in chapter 9 of Installation
and startup manual.
