in the long run. My clientele has changed
significantly over the past six years as I modify
my marketing goals.
How did you get into beekeeping?
I started with my wife, Molly, into this hobby
about three years ago. Now that we live in
the country with some acreage, it seemed like
something interesting to do as well as helping
with the bee population and getting the side
benefit of natural honey as an incentive.
Why are you initiating a wildflower
project on your farm?
Most of our land surrounding our house
now is not the best farmland in central
Illinois. Last year we enrolled several acres
into a government program where we take
it out of production and we get a variety
of choices of what we would like to plant
instead of the regular corn or soybean crops.
It’s conservation based, so we chose to plant
native wildflowers that will be on this acreage
for ten years. Needless to say, it will certainly
help our honeybees.
Do you think bees will survive in the
long term?
Most people have heard of Colony
Collapse Disorder regarding honeybees. It’s
a complicated issue with no certain remedies.
I believe that Nature will find a way.
Outside of work, what do you do for fun?
I have always been interested in family
history. I had bits and pieces from family

to actually find living relatives in Germany
with the help from the family of one of our
foreign exchange students we hosted. To make
a very long story very short, I’ve been to visit
relatives in the Black Forest area of Germany
six times now. My family and I enjoy visiting
southern Germany as well as Austria and
Switzerland and exploring the backroads and
villages of this area. The scenery and the
architecture are breathtaking. Molly and I
celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary last
December by taking in some of the Christmas
Markets of southwestern Germany.
What advice can you give
undergraduates?
Enjoy your time in college. Don’t expect to
know what you’re going to do professionally
for the rest of your life once you graduate. Ask
as many people as many questions as you can,
you can learn from just about anybody. Find
a need for something and figure out a way
to provide a better option. Stay positive and
count your blessings!

This is a big undertaking. I want to give
a very loud THANK YOU to the number
of brothers who have already generously
stepped up to support the Annual Fund and
help bridge the gap. We still need support,

As an interesting side note, we’re getting
a new neighbor! Kappa Delta sorority
has purchased the old Delta Sig house at
the end of our street. (For many of you in
recent years it has been rented by Chi Psi).
In the next year or two they will tear down
and build a new house.
The board is mindful of developments on
campus and in our surrounding community.
We work with the chapter to encourage,
guide and support them. They know it’s
important to keep the house full. We know,
as a board, that it’s important for all of us to
support the chapter, reinvest in our property,
and strive to keep our organization strong.

support. You help make our job easier and
