Wines in the Wild: Flights of Fancy
On Saturday, November 5, 2016, more than 300 guests
sampled a wonderful variety of wines, Scotch whiskies, and
craft beers while enjoying exquisite hors d’oeuvres prepared
by the zoo’s talented culinary staff. Co-chaired by Women’s
Board members Vicki DeMar and Roxann Giovannini,
the evening featured a live and silent auction and raised
$135,276 to support the Society’s education and conservation
programs. Prestige Countryside Liquors provided the wines.
Whirl Celebrates Brookfield Zoo’s
Conservation and Education Programs
The Women’s Board of the Chicago Zoological Society, in part-
nership with the Society’s Board of Trustees, hosted the 35th
annual Whirl on Saturday, April 30, 2016. The theme was CZS Women’s Board members Romana Malinowski, Sasha Gerritson,
“A Whole New Whirl.” and Mrs. James M. Guyette celebrating at the Whirl.
Chaired by Trustee Heidi Huizenga and Women’s Board
member Sarah Opler, the gala drew over 650 Chicagoland The Planning Committee for “A Whole New Whirl”
business and civic leaders, who enjoyed a meet-and-greet with included Women’s Board President Kay Guyette; Co-Chairs
our animal ambassadors, along with dinner and dancing Heidi Huizenga and Sarah Opler; John P. Grube, Chairman
under the stars. of the Board; Stuart D. Strahl, Ph.D., CZS President & CEO;
Proceeds grossed nearly $1.3 million to suport the animals and Women’s Board members Kathleen D. Amatangelo,
at Brookfield Zoo, as well as the Society’s conservation and Diane Dygert, Stephanie Bryan Kangas, Romana Malinowski,
education programs. Michele Needham, and Sharon Weil.
