Earth is in the midst of its sixth mass extinction, and
                                                                            each year, thousands of species vanish from our planet.

                                                                            The Chicago Zoological Society is committed to reversing
                                                                            this trend and restoring biodiversity. We participate in
                                                                            117 Species Survival Plans (SSPs), which are managed
                                                                            by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and carefully
                                                                            manage the breeding of specific species in order to
                                                                            maintain healthy, self-sustaining, and genetically
                                                                            diverse populations in institutions.
