This book is a kind of body, and bodies cannot live without touch, support and community. The
brain of this book was nourished by Elizabeth Dempster. It’s momentum was fed out of long term collaboration with Valerie Smith. It’s nerves, perception and skeleton grew through exchanges with many dancers and artists- Val Smith, Emma Strapps, Carol Brown, Laura Guidici, Simone Forti, Scott Smith, Olive Bieringa, Otto Ramstead, Simon Ellis, Winifred Kavalieris, Kylie Thomas, Ralph Buck, Katherine Tait, Rachelle Pedersen and Emma Cowan. Victoria University in Melbourne and The National Institute of Creative Arts and Industries at the University of Auckland here in New Zealand gave this book two cities of practice to emerge out of. The ideas in this book emerged from a heart nurtured by friends, in particular Karen Blake and Margaret Harrison – and family – Helen Longley; Jeffrey, Elena and Rosalind Holdaway. What a lucky book.
