About the kinesthetic archive project
the kinesthetic archive book was created through a series of iterations. Material was gathered solely through studio journals of dance practice over approximately 18 months – the focus being on writing directly out of the somatic sensorium of movement in order to explore writing that emerges out of dance practice, carrying logics of dance into written form. A series of journals were then treated as raw material for development of pages that were either photographed, rewritten, scanned or typed and then treated as surfaces for further writing, drawing, scanning, photography, etc.
The final pages were formatted as JPEGS which were then edited into a PDF form via Adobe Indesign. The full text was set in the font Bell MT and printed on Eco 100, a paper made from chlorine-free, 100% recycled content, under the ISO 14001 environmental system. It was hand bound by Clinton Goodwin at the University of Auckland bindery in a half binding. The Winchester University Press logo was then screen printed on the back cover by Struan Hamilton at Elam school of Art.
