The Light of Life
A young child was learning about Jesus in Sunday school. One night, he asked his mother during their evening prayers, “Mommy, what does The Light of Life mean?” His mother considered her answer carefully.
“Well sweetheart, wherever light shines, there is no darkness. Like when you walk at night and carry a flashlight. It is not the flashlight itself that brightens your path, but the light that comes from it. And since Jesus is the Light of the World, when we follow Him, He shows us the right path to take with His guidance and love, so we don’t have to walk in the darkness.”
“Does darkness mean sin, mommy?” the boy asked.
“You can think of the darkness as sin,” she answered. And when we obey, serve and worship Jesus, we leave our sins in the dark shadows. Following His light will always show you the right direction.”
“Is it like sunlight?”
“Well...it is like sunlight because the light He provides is everywhere and
helps us grow and prosper. Just like sunlight enters through every crack
and crevice. Do you remember that sunflower we saw in the middle of the
sidewalk growing right through the seam in the concrete? It found and
followed the light and grew and thrived there. So, you can think of the
Light of Life as the way He provides awareness to our mind and soul, but
