They messaged back and forth until finding a convenient spot to meet for lunch. That Saturday Brian dressed in the finest borrowed suit he had and left the house to meet Laura. He sat in a booth examining every woman who walked into the restaurant. His heart was beating so hard it felt like it could burst through his chest. Suddenly, there she was! Again, the tears flooded his eyes. He sprang from his seat and rushed toward the entrance. “Brian!” Laura couldn’t stop from yelling as she threw her arms around him. They held each other, both crying unashamedly. They stood back to look at each other and then hugged again.
During lunch, they spoke about everything except the traumas, the evilness, the events that left marks on their souls. They focused on the laughter they managed to share and the memories worth remembering. She told Brian about finding God and how she believed He turned her life around. She told him it was her prayers that most likely helped him as well. Brian had to admit it was a coincidence all the good things that were happening to him. He wasn’t ready to thank God, but he was at least open to hear his sister’s praises.
As they parted, they agreed to meet again and keep in touch. Laura turned to Brian, her hands on his shoulders and told him, “Brother, I am so proud of you.” Those were the words he had been determined to hear, the words that had encouraged and motivated him to change. He wanted only to make her proud of him, and now, she was.
